Touch and Go March 30, 2009 at 12:54 am

My thoughts.. Since we all knew that Micah is the “REBEL!” I could of sworn that it was Hana and Druker spirits. Oh well. Into asylum should be interesting. Wonder if Nathan is going to turn hero on us.? It was cool to see that Hiro has his time stopping ability back. WOW! maybe if ando super charges him in the next episodes to come. Peter somehow should get his empathy back and I think its going to be from baby matt parkman. What do you all think?

Arthassia March 30, 2009 at 1:24 am

I think Noah needs to get out more. Only 1/4 of his theories are plausible. LOL

You, my T&G friend and I both wish Peter gets his powers back on this week’s episode.

dc March 30, 2009 at 4:02 am

i dont think this denko character is good enough for heroes…he just doesnt have all those classic touches sylar used to have..
i think he needs to be more merciless…and not hesitate to do sth or give crap bout what anyone said..

I’m one of the few people that think Peter should not get his original power back, now or ever.

Here’s why: his mimicry is a inherently broken power for plotline purposes. Just by being around other heroes he becomes more powerful then any of them. This continues to the point where he becomes a literal swiss army knife, having a power to get out of any situation imaginable. That’s fun to watch, but it’s horrific for those in charge, who now have to make Peter naive enough to not know how to use all the power he has, which invites complaints, or watch him tear all before him to pieces, which is boring. Thus, he needed to be neutered to bring him in line with the power level of everyone else on the show (sans Sylar), and he was.

If he gets his power back, all that happens is that the cycle repeats itself. He absorbs many many powers, becomes broken again, needs to be neutered again, and then in come the horde of whining fans because they did what they had to do. I don’t want to see that. I like Peter the way he is- more intelligent then in Season 1/2, because of his lesser ability. The concept of multiple powers is, by itself, detrimental to the health of the show.

But, you say, what about Arthur and Sylar? Arthur is excusable due to several factors, chief of which his brief stint on the show and the fact that he’s a villian. Had he lived longer, he would have been an excellent antagonist, more calculating then Sylar but just as powerful. Sylar is also a villian, but he’s subject to the same rules as Peter due to the amount of time spent on the show- and again, he was depowered, for the best. And he’s loved by fans, including myself. But the crucial difference is that when he takes an ability, the user is (Elle excluded), dead. We don’t have to watch them depowered. With Arthur, we do, and THAT is why people disliked Volume 3.

A question, for anybody who wants Peter’s ability back. Do you have any reason that doesn’t involve “the fans want it” “I want it”, or “it’ll boost ratings”? I’m serious, because I’m just seeing mindless group-think from most of what I read on here. If the writers changed plotlines to fit my wants, Charlie and Daphne would still be alive, Claude would still be on the show, Five Years Gone as the only Dark Future, Knox wouldn’t have been shattered into pieces, Sylar would use all his abilities, instead of just a few…I could go on.

In my eyes, these things would make the show far better. But I realise wanting something isn’t a good reason for it happening, and that doesn’t change no matter how many people want it. If it fits in the writer’s plans to bring back Peter’s power, it will come back, when they want it to. I would not, personally, support such plans, but I have decent reasons for thinking that way. If anyone else has decent reasons for thinking the opposite, I would honestly welcome hearing them.

@Swm

Very intelligent comment, my friend! I have to agree with you on this one… although I do miss Peter’s EM, it did present problems, and – as you said – they had to make Peter TOO naive/ dumb to balance the fact that he was virtually a god. At least this way, he has to INTELLIGENTLY use his skills (and his brain!) while strategising (i.e. what power to use, or how to best apply the power that he is stuck with at the time). Makes him a MUCH better character – and hero – in my book.

Just a thought here, on my part… maybe Peter could get his EM back, but still only be able to mimic and hold one power at a time (i.e. like now, but proximity-absorbing the power instead of having to touch a character)? That way he’s not SO limited, but he still has limits – he doesn’t become a convenient filing cabinet for abilities. This way, the writers can still handle the character, and the (more intelligent) fans will be happier.

sk74 March 30, 2009 at 11:12 am

By the way, when I say “more intelligent” fans, I mean the ones who would rather see this series as a story that makes sense/ is going somewhere, has 3-dimensional characters, and subplots that make you think… as opposed to an all-out slugfest in the style of Xmen 3 (use as many mutants and powers as you can cram into the allotted time). So, no offense intended to anyone!

shadow-cat March 30, 2009 at 12:17 pm

If Danko has any power, it’s so stupid.
Seriously, MAN!
To give the (ALMOST) biggest enemy powers… well, weird :S

Peter is so cute.
I think we should leave him in the churce (without the thing he is hiding there, of course).
There is only a day, and seems like a month.

shadow-cat March 30, 2009 at 12:19 pm

*Church.
(I don’t know why I wrote “Churce” OO)

Will you put a stream of heroes tonight Matej?

Matej ( Heroes Television) March 30, 2009 at 11:17 pm

Don’t know yet :( If I find a good one, with full screen

Mihajlo March 31, 2009 at 2:13 am

Just when we get to see “Nikki” in Tracey they kill her. Hiro rarely shows up in episodes, but we still have lots and lots and lots of boring ol’ Claire.

derrick March 31, 2009 at 6:32 am

@ swm i understand what you are sayn but i want him to get to get it back because i think it ruins his character with him not getting his full powers back. plus i think that sylar has to have a equal on the show too right in order for the whole good guy bad guy thing to work other wise they should take away or limit sylars powers too because this seems like the only time that sylar has had trouble with a ability pluss i dont get it why did peters dad take his powers anyway sylar oviously had the better powers right so why not get the good powers?

Swm March 31, 2009 at 11:16 am

Derrick: How does it ruin his character? If anything Peter’s character is BETTER right now because that’s the thing being focused on instead of all his abilities. His character is different, yeah, but it’s for the better, not worse. Yesterday’s episode is more proof of this, focusing on his relationship with Angela.

Secondly, Sylar does not need an equal. Villians must be stronger then the heroes to pose a serious threat (much how Sylar was in early Season 1). To give him an equal is to set up a neccessary battle between two characters, which is a bad idea as it limits the rest of the cast. How then does the villian die? Through teamwork. Sylar wasn’t beaten in Volume 1 by Peter alone, he had Niki, HRG, Matt, and Hiro helping him out at various points. Arthur was only taken down by Peter, the Hatian, and inadvertently Sylar. Even Hiro was only able to “beat” Adam after Matt and Nathan made Peter see sense and stop protecting him, and even if you say that’s still Hiro, all he did was lock him in a casket. Given Adam’s immortal, that’s at best a setback.

Besides, did Arthur need an equal in Volume 3? No. He was clearly the strongest at that point, stronger then even Sylar, and his character was a good one (crippled by a weak story). Did Adam in Volume 2? Don’t say Claire, that’s a pathetic example. Not only did they have nothing to do with each other, but Adam was far more experienced and skilled. She’d have been destroyed had they ever fought. Similarly, Danko does a great job of being threatening in Volume 4, despite only having science and technology on his side. He’s the other half of the coin, and he works excellently.

With this in mind, Sylar clearly doesn’t need a nerf. His mastery of acquired powers just makes him even more threatening, which means the heroes just need to try much harder to beat him. This is a good thing for the plot, since everyone loves climatic battles. In order to have such things, you need powerful antagonists. Wanting both of these things is fine, but that’s not a justification for Peter getting his abilties back. There is nothing in the show that says Peter must kill Sylar, not his ability or his role. Saying otherwise is to just say “I want it to happen”- which, as I said above, is no justification at all.

As for your final comment…you’re just wrong. Sylar was still being manipulated by Arthur at that point, hence he needed him to keep his powers to be useful. Also, in a comparison between Peter and Sylar’s powers as of the episode where Peter loses his abilities:

Peter: Empathic mimicry, Precognitive Dreaming (Angela’s power), Flight, Precognition, space-time manipulation, rapid cell regeneration, telepathy, invisibility, telekinesis, induced radioacivity, super strength, phasing, lightning, pyrokinesis, intiutive aptitude, super speed.

Sylar: Intuitive Aptitude, Telekinesis, Alchemy, Clairsentience (Bridget’s power), Sound manipulation, Rapid Cell Regeneration.

(He did not gain Elle’s power, lie detection, or imprinting until later episodes, which is why I don’t include them. He lost all his Season 1 powers except intiutive aptitude and telekinesis to the Shanti Virus).

So…16 abilities vs 6, and 3 of Sylar’s 6 (intiutive aptitute, Telekinesis, and rapid cell regeneration), are included in Peter’s. It’s obvious which one Arthur would want to go for, which he did. So he did “get the good powers.”

roderick6718 March 31, 2009 at 11:27 pm

i think Angela will take Peter and claire to Samson Gray in the hospital before he dies and explain to him that Peter needs his abilities to stop his son before he destroy’s everything Samson ask’s what in it for me and claire gives him some of her blood and he heals not before peter takes his abilities and i think Angela is angry with him because Sylar’s mother was her sister Wendy that he killed…..Just a thought

anyone know the song played on the radio when danko first runs into sylar?

Arthassia April 1, 2009 at 4:44 am

Ooohhh sounds good ROderick!

Sxlar April 2, 2009 at 4:22 pm

Hey SWM, kudos for echoing my point of view on Peter. As I have mentioned way earlier (scroll up heehee), Peter’s lack of insane powers DOES make him much more endearing. I mean, now we actually FEEL for the fella when he’s virtually trapped in a situation, and without a “go-to” power that can easily get him outta there. And as always, good comics/shows/movies always have the good guys a notch or two below the bad guys. Makes it better for the teamwork aspect to show up.

Addressing another topic on this thread– I still am not convinced that we are headed for the future we saw in “Five Years Gone”. Yes, Sylar does have the shapeshifting power now, but doesn’t it look TOTALLY different from what he could do in FYG? The ability in FYG was clearly Candice Wilmer’s ability to alter and create illusions. The current ability Sylar acquired from James Martin was individual shapeshifting, causing him to indefinitely become the “shifted subject” until he decides to change again. Secondly, no one’s set to blow up New York.

And also, let’s give the writers and producers some credit, and realise that they too, are human, and think and reason just like any of us would. This is a great show as it is, and there may be bits and pieces of the series that turn us off, but who would really enjoy a show where everything went as expected and as demanded? It is the suspense/anticipation/apprehension of not knowing what’s gonna happen next (be it good or bad) that keeps us loving and coming back to the wonderful show we call Heroes! (:

Have a good day everyone.

fight or flight April 7, 2009 at 7:09 pm

why did sylar hang on to telekinesis and intuitive aptitude when he cured himself of the shanti virus, surely he should have all of his previous powers aswell?

charlotte :) April 7, 2009 at 9:17 pm

The song played on the radio (in the background), when Sylar and Danko are sitting in Danko’s car is:

Del Shannon – Runaway
