Heroes Season 3 Details And Sylar’s Past

by Matej ( Heroes Television)

  • Kring said the structure of season 3 will be 13 episodes in volume 3, “Villains,” and 12-episodes in volume 4 (which Kring said in another interview would be titled “Fugitives”).
  • All new characters introduced this season will immediately be a part of an established character’s storyline.
  • In a flashback episode that will show events pre-dating the pilot, we will get to see more of pre-Sylar Gabriel Gray.
  • Because of the way the strike changed season 2, we will not find out what happened to Peter’s Irish girlfriend, Caitlin.
  • Kaito Nakamura’s power was intentionally revealed on the DVD for hardcore fans but Kring does not know when TV viewers will learn of his power.
  • Quinto said he sees similarities between his Star Trek character, Spock, and Heroes villain Sylar. “There are elements of the characters that echo each other, but from opposite ends of the spectrum.” He added that both have “a stillness and a rich internal point of view that informs the way they behave.”
  • Serial killer Sylar will return this season to Heroes during its highly anticipated two-hour premiere. But, will we see more of his pre-evil alter ego, Gabriel Gray?
  • According to Zachary Quinto, he’d love to see as much of Sylar’s background as possible. He confirmed that Gray will return this season, revisiting the “shades of that character as you first saw him.”
  • The first time we learned of Sylar’s past was in the first season’s episode “Six Months Ago” in which Chandra Surresh tells watch repairman Gray that he may have super powers. When Gray learns of his real power, which is stealing other people’s abilities, he uses them to kill off other “heroes.” Surresh figures out Sylar’s killing streak and becomes one of his victims.
  • In “Volume 3: Villains,” creator Tim Kring intimates that by using Gray, the show will continue to “peel the layers off of that onion as long as this character exists on the show.”
  • Sylar will play a major role in volume 3 and will have “a series of very human relationships in this season.”

its always good to learn more about sylar, just so long as really he stays bad and carries on nicking powers or he’ll just lose that charisma.

I like more back story. I knew we hadn’t seen all there was to Sylar.

More Sylar the better. He rocks!! Dying to fins out more about his mysterious past!!

Does anyone know if we will ever find out what those 6 extra special powers were / are that Sylar got back in Season 1? I think he had got Levitation as I have noticed he just rises up from the floor without pushing himself up & Shadow Travel which I think he has got cos most of the time he is after someone there’s a shadow, ie when he went after Claire in Homecoming. Just trying to think of what the other 4 powers could be?

All new characters introduced this season will immediately be a part of an established character’s storyline. Sounds awesome along with teh rest of teh article. Thanks Matej

You guys are wrong when you said “When Gray learns of his real power, which is stealing other people’s abilities, he uses them to kill off other Heroes…” because his power is NOT to steal other people’s powers. His power is called ‘Intuitive aptitude’ which is the ability to figure out how anything works extremely fast without instructions and such. He just knows how things work, which is WHY he was successful as a watch repair person. He used that power to figure out the connection between the brain and the Heroe’s powers, and thus he splits the heroes heads open to get to their brains. I just wanted to point out that his power is to “be able to figure things out,” and he used that TO steal heroes’ powers because he was one of the few who actually knew how the powers worked in relation to the body and the brain.

It will be good to find out more of sylar’s past indeed and it will be very interesting to the real gabriel gray he is probably not that evil anyway.

Mitch i think your absolutly right about Sylar’s special ability i do have one question how do you think he actually acquires the power does he eat their brain or does he alter his DNA somehow if someone could answer this question it would be great.

Nick, hold your horses. You’ll find out how Sylar does the deed soon enough. How Sylar does his trick is supposed to be revealed in the premiere.

This does seem to support my earlier comment about Sylar’s mysterious absentee father. I think were going to learn a few interesting things about our favourate brain man. He is probably the most interesting character in the show.

i’m expecting this drama. so interesting.

It really seems that a “Good Sylar” is on the cards. Hopefully this means he’s going to crack some villianous skulls. Quite literally lol

I have to say I feel sorry for Caitlin. Stranded in an alternate future because of a Writer’s strike. Poor poor girl

s.k.74 09.12.08 at 5:08 pm

Yes, she must be gutted! Especially after she lost her brother the way she did, and INSISTED on going along with Peter when he wanted to go alone… I bet she’s kicking herself now, eh?

I did think, though, that it would be kinda cool if they invented a character that could travel to alternate timelines/ parallel realities (call it what you will, you get the idea), similar to Hiro’s teleportation but very different (like not being able to travel thru time as well, although if they could it would give them an advantage over Hiro). A character like this could be very interesting, and might bump into Caitlin one day (but would we really want them to?), possibly being a way to bring her back (again, would we really want them to?!?).

Personally, Sylar should just stay dead. When I saw the end of season 1, I just thought “why won’t you die???” He is a whiney character because his parents didn’t love him enough as he grew up. Just a quick observation on his questionable powers, I don’t think that he has levitation just because he can make himslef float. Telekinesis can do something like that. Shadow travel I don’t think is a power, it’s all in the lighting. Hopefully Sylar will finally die in season 3, either by Kristen Bell or Francis Capra (new character). Feel free to disagree, I know that some people want him to stay in all of the seasons, but I just want to say that enough is enough, I want better villians and not some whiney watchmaker who eats brains. Yes Peter is whiney too but his power is better.

companyman21 09.15.08 at 7:11 am

I have to disagree with that comment about Sylar being “whiney”. Peter may very well be but I don’t think the same can be said for Sylar. I don’t know where you get the idea about his parents as he doesn’t really shed tears when his mother dies and he said himself that he thought of them as “insignifficant”. I personally love the character as he is so complex. It really isn’t black and white with him ( Maybe that’s where his last name comes from?) I don’t think he could ever really be described as a villian as he really isn’t that bad of a guy when you think about it. He has a very primal Darwinist view of “Only the fittest survive” true and he really only does what he does because he believes it is right, an “evolutianry imperative” as he says. I personally can’t wait till we can delve into that very complex mind again and see what make the watchmaker’s son tick.

Oh and on a similar note and this is only wild speculation but I was watching “Six Months Ago” again yesterday and I noticed on the window of Sylar’s shop it said “Gray and Sons”(?!) now this mainly only have been a set prop mistake but could Sylar have a brother or brothers? Or if the title refers to his grandfather as it is a family business and could be his father( I can’t stop thinking of brain man and daddy issues lol) and that he has an uncle that may also be gifted? ( If you ignore the Petrelli love child rumours ) Again just wild speculation but something to think about while wating for the 22nd.

I have to agree with the above post about Sylar… he isn’t just your average villain. He showed anguish when he thought he was going to blow up New York, so he isn’t just your typical ‘ take over/ destroy the world’ bad guy. He is probably one of the most interesting antagonists ever! Deep down within the monstrous exterior, he is still human (which gives him both a strength and a weakness), and from the sound of what we will see of him this season, you never know what he is capable of… Could HE actually be the one to save the world this time around? Season 1, when he fights Peter at Kirby Plaza, he says something like ” it turns out I’M the hero, Peter, I get to stop you (the bomb)”…

Imagine what kind of father he will be in the future (to little Noah, his son)!, how protective he will be! Heaven help anyone who bullies his kid at school, that’s all I’m sayin’… Teachers better give Sy Jr. top grades each time too! (”You only gave my son a B+… I’d like to see how that works…”) lol!
